Explosives Risk Managers LLC provides a wide variety of risk management services to the explosives industry and others. The Principle at ERM is Lon Santis. ERM draws on Mr. Santis’ broad experience, wide network of industry subject matter experts and government representatives, and FAA-compliant small unmanned aircraft services in Maryland and around the U.S.
Mr. Santis holds a B.S. and M.S. in Mining Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked a short time as a sales representative for the Ensign-Bickford Co. and then spent 12 years as a Principal Investigator and Supervisor in the Explosives Research Group of the US Bureau of Mines in Pittsburgh, PA, later operated by NIOSH. Then he worked 15 years as the Manager of Technical Services for the Institute of Makers of Explosives. At IME he managed the Technical, Transportations and Distribution, and Security Committees. In 2013 he started Explosives Risk Managers LLC, a consulting company providing services on all aspects of risk from industrial explosives related activities. Mr. Santis is the chair of the NFPA Technical Committee on Explosives (responsible for the NFPA 495 and 498 standards), a Director of the International Society of Explosives Engineers, chair of the ANSI A10.7 Subgroup on explosives safety in construction and is involved in various capacities in many other industry groups.
ERM pilots are experienced and skilled operators of unmanned aircraft systems. Most are “experienced miners” under the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s regulations.
